Marana
Marana was given its name in the late 1800's when rail transportation arrived in the region. Rail workers cutting through the dense desert brush to make way for the tracks called it "marana", the Spanish word for "jungle".
Housing is quite suburban in Marana; the traditional Arizonan stucco houses and rock yards abound, and yet plenty of open desert landscape remains to enjoy and explore. Tucson's only highway bisects Marana, which is ideal for residents savoring the laid back life of the suburbs while continuing to work in the city.
In 2007, Marana was selected to host the PGA Tour's World Golf Championships Accenture Match Play Tournament, featuring 64 of the world's best golfers, and will continue to host the event through 2010.
