East & Northeast Tucson
The Santa Catalina mountains to the the north and northeast of Tucson are home to variety of only-in-the-Southwest residential and recreational experiences. The unincorporated Catalina Foothills community is home to more than 50,000 residents and three of the state's most exclusive resorts. The Foothills' expansive lots and the mountains' natural vegetation ensure that for better or worse, residents lice alongside bobcats, coyotes, deer, javelina and other desert creatures.
At the Foothills' northeastern edge is the breathtaking Sabino Canyon Recreational Area, drawing more than one million visitors a year with the promise of a number of trek-worthy trailheads and swimming holes. Tucsonans and Foothills residents can also travel a short distance north to the trails of Pima Canyon and Mount Kimball, whose strategic location commands impressive views in all directions from its summit - including the spectacle of forested Mount Lemon to the east.
