Outdoor & Nature Adventures -

  • Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (520) 883-1380 - 2021 N. Kinney Rd., Tucson, AZ 85743
    • In the heart of the Sonoran Desert: living exhibits include more than 1,300 types of plants, 300 kinds of animals. Open daily, year-round.
  • Colossal Cave Mountain Park (520) 647-7275 - 16721 E. Old Spanish Trail, Vail, AZ 85641
    • The first formal tours of this cave were conducted in 1923 and involved ropes and lanterns. Today’s tours offer a much safer and more comfortable peek at this area’s underground geology. Colossal Cave is called “dry” or “dormant,” meaning that, due to a lack of water, it no longer is “growing” crystal formations. Yet the preserved stalactites, stalagmites, and flowstone are beautiful to behold. And the temperature inside the cave is always a pleasant 70° Fahrenheit.
  • Kartchner Caverns State Park (520) 586-CAVE (2283)
    • One of the great natural wonders of the western United States. It’s believed that no human had ever seen this huge living cave prior to its discovery in the 1970s by two Tucson cave enthusiasts. Care has been taken to preserve the pristine conditions within. Remarkable because it is a “wet” or “living” cave, meaning the calcite formations are still growing. See a stunning variety of multicolored cave formations. Make sure to call ahead for a reservation!
  • Kitt Peak National Observatory (520) 318-8726
    • The world’s largest collection of optical telescopes is located high above the Sonoran Desert under some of the finest night skies in the world. Kitt Peak, on the Tohono O'odham Reservation, is home to twenty-four optical and two radio telescopes representing eight astronomical research institutions.
  • Sabino Canyon Recreational Area (520) 749-2327 - 5900 N. Sabino Canyon Rd., Tucson, AZ 85750
    • Sabino Canyon offers spectacular views, a variety of wildlife, and dozens of marked trails that range from easy to advanced. The easiest hike is the one that takes you 3.8 miles up the canyon. Other favorites include the Telephone Line Trail and Bear Canyon.

Downtown & University Areas

  • Downtown Arts District - Roughly bounded by I-10, Toole Ave., 4th Ave., and 15th St.
    • Find an eclectic mix of sidewalk cafes, bars, vintage and gift shops, theaters, and diverse galleries hosting numerous arts and cultural events each month.
  • Fourth Avenue - On 4th Ave. between Congress St. and University Blvd
    • Take the trolley through this unique, historic shopping district boasting more than 100 shops and restaurants offering vintage and boutique clothing, jewelry, furniture, artwork, and a food co-op. You’ll find fashions, antiques, artwork, and handcrafted and imported wares. The Fourth Avenue Street Fair is held in early spring and again in December.
  • The Lost Barrio - On Park Ave. just south of Broadway Blvd.
    • This unique row of shops offers an extensive inventory of furniture and home accessories, plus garden and landscaping elements. Concentrating on Southwestern and ethnic styles, the shops carry antiques, reproductions, imports and one-of-a-kind items by local artisans.
  • Main Gate Square – On University Blvd. between Park and Euclid Aves.
    • A pedestrian-friendly shopping and dining destination near The University of Arizona with more than 50 shops and restaurants including clothing stores, a bike shop, a bookstore, coffeehouses, brew pubs, and the Marriott hotel. Take the trolley from Main Gate to Fourth Ave.
  • Old Town Artisans – In the historic El Presidio neighborhood, downtown at 201 N. Court Ave.
    • An impressive amount of handcrafted work by local, regional, and Latin American artists and artisans occupies an entire city block, including landscaped courtyard and a Mexican restaurant.

Central

  • Broadway Village – Southwest corner of Broadway Blvd. and Country Club Rd.
    • This charming Mission-style complex hosts a wine-country restaurant and a number of interesting shopping experiences, from custom jewelry and kitchenware to art, fine Colonial furniture, imported rugs, holiday décor, and more.
  • Campbell Avenue – On Campbell Ave. between Grant and Fort Lowell Rds.
    • This bustling corridor of Campbell Ave. offers a vast array of shops and galleries offering Native American and Mexican arts & crafts, fine art, handcrafted jewelry, designer apparel, music and instruments, collectibles, and more, as well as nearly 50 restaurants.
  • Crossroads Festival – Northeast corner of Grant and Swan Rds.
    • Fine bed and bath accessories, men’s and women’s clothing shops, a paper and party-supply store, a cigar shop, a toy store, an ice cream shop, an art store, a coffee shop, specialty baked goods, a grocery store, restaurants, salons, a furniture store, video rental, a six-screen movie theater, and other specialty stores.
  • El Con Mall – On Broadway Blvd. between Country Club Rd. and Alvernon Way
    • Tucson’s first regional shopping mall, El Con houses JCPenney, The Home Depot, The Poster Warehouse, Target, Claim Jumper Restaurant, Sauce Restaurant, In-N-Out Burger, and Centure 20 Theaters with stadium-style seating.
  • Fort Lowell Furniture District – On Fort Lowell Rd. between Tucson and Dodge Blvds.
    • Copenhagen Imports, California Design Center, Contents Interiors, Knock-on-Wood, Norwalk The Furniture Idea, Total Look Interiors, Illuminations, and Alexander’s on Fort Lowell are all located within a three-block stretch and feature top-quality furniture and, unique home accessories, and professional design services.
  • Plaza Palomino – Southeast corner of Swan and Fort Lowell Rds.
    • You’ll enjoy shopping, dining, and relaxing among tiled courtyards and fountains in a hacienda-like setting. Shops include women’s apparel, jewelry, art galleries, specialty stores such as a stationary shop, and restaurants.

Northwest & Foothills

  • Casas Adobes Plaza – Southwest Corner of Oracle and Ina Rds.
    • This historic Mediterranean/ Territorial-style center features premier home accessory and furniture stores, upscale clothing and shoes, restaurants, cafes, plus jewelry, gifts, natural foods, wine, and Native American arts & crafts.
  • Foothills Mall – Northwest corner of Ina Rd. and La Cholla Blvd.
    • This mall offers Off 5th: Saks Fifth Avenue Outlet, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, and other manufactures’ outlet stores, specialty boutiques, a 15-screen movie theater, restaurants and more.
  • Gallery Row at El Cortijo – Northeast corner of Skyline Dr. and Campbell Ave.
    • This shopping complex, with architecture inspired by the provincial farmhouses of southern Spain, is home to world-class galleries and shops that offer glass art, paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and clothing, as well as items for the home and garden. A contemporary restaurant rounds out the mix.
  • Joesler Village – Northwest Corner of River Rd. and Campbell Ave.
    • This contemporary shopping center, set among tasteful courtyards and fountains, features upscale retail shops including furniture and art galleries, clothing boutiques, specialty shops, four stylish restaurants, and more.
  • La Encantada – Northwest corner of Skyline Dr. and Campbell Ave.
    • La Encantada features high-end shops, including Tiffany & Co., Bebe, Louis Vuitton, and Williams-Sonoma. Choose from a handful of upscale restaurants while enjoying the open-air environment.
  • Paloma Village Center – Southeast corner of Skyline Dr. and Campbell Ave.
    • Located in the foothills of Tucson’s Santa Catalina Mountains, this five-building center features a number of high-end shops and restaurants, including a steakhouse, a regional gift shop, and galleries, as well as a variety of local businesses.
  • Plaza Colonial – Southwest corner of Skyline Dr. and Campbell Ave.
    • Reminiscent of the streets of Spanish Colonial Mexico and topped with an Old World-style copper dome, the newest addition to the Foothills includes clothing boutiques, a bank, both a “med spa” and a day spa, galleries, and restaurant.
  • The River Center – Northeast corner of River and Craycroft Rds.
    • A palm-lined courtyard in the shape of the state of Arizona highlights this Foothills center, which features restaurants, women’s clothing, Southwest gifts, jewelry, craft supplies, a florist, a salon, and an antique store, as well as a public library.
  • St. Philip’s Plaza – Southeast corner of River Rd. and Campbell Ave.
    • Innovative restaurants, a bar/lounge, and a salon and day spa accompany shops featuring fashions, shoes, furnishings, and the arts. Set in a Mexican-style outdoor plaza with fountains, tiled courtyards, and lush, colorful landscaping with an all-suites hotel.
  • The Tucson Mall – Northeast corner of Oracle and Wetmore Rds.
    • Tucson’s largest shopping mall houses more than 200 retail stores including Dillard’s, Macy’s, JCPenney, Mervyn’s, Sears, Gap, and Old Navy, plus a food court with an international selection.

  • El Mercado Shoppes – Southeast corner of Broadway Blvd. and Wilmot Rd.
    • This unique Mercado, or market, offers restaurants, a salon and day spa, a florist, jewelry stores, a chocolate store, a nature and art gallery, a furniture store, and other specialty shops.
  • La Plaza Shoppes – At 6530-6548 E. Tanque Verde Rd. near Grant Rd.
    • A diverse mix of shopping opportunities features several restaurants, fine boutiques, art galleries, jewelry stores, furniture, antiques and collectibles, a salon, and a candy store.
  • Park Place – On Broadway Blvd. between Craycroft and Wilmot Roads
    • Home to approximately 150 stores, including Dillard’s, Macy’s, and Sears. Shop other big names, including Gap, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor Loft, Old Navy, Aveda, Z Gallerie, and Borders Books & Music.
  • The Plaza at Williams Centre – Southwest corner of Broadway Blvd. and Craycroft Rd.
    • In the shadow of Tucson’s eastside corporate and financial center, this sophisticated plaza features Persian and Oriental rugs, jewelry, gifts, elegant-to-casual men’s apparel, footwear, bicycles, restaurants, and a nightclub.
  • Sante Fe Square – At 7000 E. Tanque Verde Rd. near Grant Rd.
    • This pueblo-style shopping center features multiple art galleries and museums, rugs, a hair salon, and more. A Greek restaurant and a nearby bistro round out the mix.
  • Trail Dust Town – At 6541 E. Tanque Verde Rd. neat Grant Rd.
    • Enjoy a replica 19th-century Western street with wooden sidewalks and Wild West stunt shows, small shops, galleries, and a central plaza with a gazebo.   • Ventana Plaza – On Kolb Rd. just south of Sunrise Dr.
    • Nestled in the shadow of the Santa Catalina Mountains, this sophisticated plaza offers visitors international cuisine, designer handbags and accessories, and women’s fashions, as well as a contemporary art gallery, gift shop, salon, fitness center, and children’s dance studio.
